EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Each year MSA recognizes and honors outstanding magnet schools. Hillsborough County Magnet Schools have been recognized more than 70 times by MSA. At the Magnet Schools of America’s 26th Annual National Conference, April 28 through May 1, fifteen Hillsborough magnet schools were honored in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Merit School Awards recognize “commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation/diversity efforts, and the consistent delivery of quality services to all school stakeholders”. This year, Hillsborough County Public Schools received the highest number of MSA awards of any member district.
Ferrell, Lomax, and Muller Elementary Magnet Schools; Young and Williams Middle Magnet Schools; and Tampa Bay Technical High School were awarded Magnet Schools of Excellence. For the third time, Tampa Bay Technical High School is the only high school to be recognized as a merit award winner.
Lee, Lincoln, Lockhart, Macfarlane Park, and Shore Elementary Magnet Schools; and Dowdell, Orange Grove, Progress Village and Sligh Middle Magnet Schools were awarded Magnet Schools of Distinction.
A listing of all of the Magnet School and their themes is attached.
