Approve Discretionary Lottery Reports (Business Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The 1996 Florida Legislature adopted an amendment to Section 24.121, Florida Statutes, requiring local school districts to make available to the public a quarterly report displaying discretionary lottery revenue and expenditures. For the quarter ended September 30, 2007, the School District expended $1,833,356; for the quarter ended December 31, 2007, the School District expended $1,851,583; and for the quarter ended March 31, 2008, the School District expended $1,964,220 in discretionary lottery funds for fiscal year 2007-2008. Lottery funds are used to (1) provide student instruction BEYOND 5/HRS. a day, (2) support the School Improvement Program partially funded by state "categorical" revenue and, (3) enhance existing funding to charter schools in Hillsborough County. (Lottery revenue is based on the Florida Education Finance Program Calculation Data).
