Approve Technical Services Agreement with Educators Training Network to Provide Training for Teachers and Staff at Dover Elementary School (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

Staff development is essential to extend teachers’ abilities and focus on student achievement. Educators Training Network will provide training for the teachers and staff at Dover Elementary and Willis Peters Exceptional Center. “Making a Difference with Differentiated Instruction-Literature Based” K-2 workshop will provide creative reading activities to motivate students to a higher level. “Fantastic Math Activities” grades 3-5 is intended to strengthen our math program using unique ideas, hands on activities, creative math centers, and games. The training will take place August 6, 2008.

Goal 1 – The percentage of students scoring at level 3 or higher on FCAT Reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points. Goal 5 – The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

This Technical Service Agreement will be paid out of Dover Elementary School’s Title I Staff Development set aside dollars in the amount of $5,000.

During the 2008/2009 school year, teachers will implement the techniques and strategies acquired in the workshop. Workshop strategies will be observed by the principal and the assistant principal during formal and informal observations. Professional Learning Communities will meet twice monthly to monitor student progress in reading and math utilizing ongoing data collection.
