Florida School Board Association (FSBA) State Innovative Technology in Education Recognition Award

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Initiative: One of the many innovative uses of technology in the HCPS is the Instructional Planning Tool (IPT). In use across the District this tool gives appropriate role based access to instructors, administrators, and district level curriculum leaders to individual student and group performance data. The IPT is supported locally, its use is taught by District trainers, and its data is uploaded from local Information Technology sources. The IPT was nominated to the award committee of the FSBA who in turn found it to be an "Exemplary" use of technology to assist teachers and students in their respective journey in instruction and learning.

Goals: To highlight the District's innovative use of technology - specifically the Instructional Planning Tool, under the leadership of the School Board

Targeted Population: All employees who need student information, group and individual, and who make instructional decisions: teachers, administrators, and district level staff.

Timeline: The award was implemented on June 12, 2008. The IPT functions are used throughout the year by teachers, administrators and district level staff.

Staff Development: There is staff development coursework in the use of the IPT for instructional and administrative staff.

Transferability: The IPT is used across the entire district at all instructional sites.

Involvement: A variety of stakeholders were involved in the creation of the IPT so that the information would be valuable to the end user.
