Approve Non-Renewal of Contract for Prince Community Academy

Charter legislation includes a provision for the renewal of a charter contract for those schools that have successfully completed their contract term. The school district's process for contract renewal consideration includes the submission of a letter of intent to renew the contract, a comprehensive program review, an update of the charter application, and the development of a new contract.

Consistent with established procedures, a district review team assessed the school's performance relevant to student achievement, finance, governance, administration, curriculum and instruction, and assessment.

During the site visit on March 29, 2008, several issues and concerns were noted. The Superintendent sent a 90-day letter to Prince Community Academy on May 5, 2008, outlining these concerns (Attachment 1). The school requested an informal hearing which was held June 16, 2008, in front of the Hillsborough County School Board.

Attached is a report of the review team's findings (Attachment 2). Staff recommends non-renewing the contract for Prince Community Academy.

Goal 6 – All schools in the district will be assigned a state grade of A, B, or C.

The schools 2007–2008 enrollment generated $264,972 in FEFP funds. The school also received $28,953 in capital outlay funds from the Florida Department of Education.
