Recognition of the 2007/2008 Student Recipients of the Promoting Regional Interest in Science and Math (PRISM) Regional Most Improved and Most Outstanding Scholar Program - (Middle School Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The student scholar program was initiated by PRISM and the Central Florida Public Schools Board Coalition to increase student proficiency in higher-level science and math curriculum and to encourage students to pursue more rigorous math/science/technology courses while in middle and high school. As an incentive, a $500 savings bond is awarded to students recognized as Regional Scholars.

The PRISM Scholar Program involves the identification and selection of the most improved and outstanding science and mathematics students each year. Applications were submitted by 7th grade students with specific requirements for District consideration that included:

The Hillsborough District selected four 7th grade Regional PRISM scholars, one for each category. The list of winners is attached.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Funds of $300 are available in the divisional budget of Curriculum and Instruction, Middle School Education (Project 6163). Funds cover the cost of plaques for the PRISM Regional Scholars.
Funds of $2,000 provided by PRISM and the Central Florida Public Schools Board Coalition cover the cost of the savings bonds.
