Approve Florida State Fair Authority License and Use Agreement for Events, Contract No. 09N0037, for the Middle School Math League Competition, April 15, 2009 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval of Contract No. 09N0037 with the Florida State Fair Authority to provide the venue for the 2009 Middle School Math League Competition.

On April 15, 2009, the district-wide Middle School Math League Competition will be held for students to compete in grade-level teams for both team and individual awards. Responding to challenging mathematical problems, students must strategize independently, as well as cooperatively within a team. To prepare for competition, students practice throughout the school year with a teacher-coach. Approximately 550 students will participate in the Math League competitions to win trophies for their schools and for themselves.

This agreement has been reviewed by the School Board Attorney as to form and sufficiency.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The cost of $5,746.80 for use of the facility is funded through school registration fees. The agreement includes the cost of facilities rental, chairs/tables setup, security, and utilities.
