Recognition of Marshall Middle School Named As a National Demonstration School for Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)(Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Marshall Middle School has been recognized by National Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) as a National Demonstration Site for 2008-2010. They are one of three schools in the state of Florida to hold this prestigious distinction. The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students with academic potential are capable of completing a college preparatory path.

On December 2, 2008, a team of National AVID evaluators visited the Marshall Middle School campus. Classroom observations were performed to evaluate the degree in which the school has implemented the eleven AVID Essentials on a school-wide basis. This evaluation validates the level of commitment of every Marshall teacher to a higher academic expectation for all their students.

As a national demonstration site for 2008-2010, Marshall is not only an AVID model for the rest of our District schools but also schools in surrounding areas.
