Approve the Subagreement (#1777-1049-00-E) Between the University of South Florida (USF) and Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) for Services Associated with HCPS Role in the State’s Mathematics and Science Partnerships Grant, Florida PROMiSE (Partnership to Rejuvenate & Optimize Mathematics and Science Education), Project # 291-2359A-9CM01 (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) awarded $8,242,622 to USF for year two of the state’s Mathematics and Science Partnerships grant. Partners in the grant include HCPS, Miami-Dade Public Schools, the School District of Duval County, Florida State University, and the University of Florida. The purpose of the program is to develop and implement professional development and teacher education programs to significantly improve student learning in mathematics and science by working collaboratively with a state-wide network of stakeholders. The role of HCPS is to provide personnel to create and deliver professional development in K-12 mathematics and science for HCPS teachers. Year two of the project began December 1, 2008, and ends September 30, 2009. Of the total amount awarded in year two, $247,251.65 is allocated for project services rendered by HCPS.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)

Funding for this project is provided by FLDOE; Project # 291-2359A-9CM01. USF is the grant’s fiscal agent and project funds reside at USF. HCPS will invoice USF as outlined in the Subagreement.

EVALUATION

Under the terms of the grant, USF is responsible for project evaluation. A copy of the annual reports and final evaluation report will be provided to HCPS Office of Assessment and Accountability. The anticipated date for the first annual report is March 30, 2009.
