Sample Drop-off/Pick-up Line

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

At the February 24, 2009, School Board Meeting a concern was addressed in audience participation regarding “idling in pick-up/drop-off lines.” Staff was asked by the Board to research what schools are doing in regards to cars idling in the pick-up line that could possibly be used as a model.

Coleman Middle School has implemented the “Stop Your Engines” campaign. Procedures were sent home to parents describing the locations and directions for drop-off and asking them to begin drop-off as early as 8:35 a.m. to avoid bottlenecking. Parents have been asked to “stop your engines” if they arrive early and suggested to have parents volunteer in the media center if they feel the need for an early arrival for pick-up.
