9th Congressional District

The Best of Show winner of the 11th Congressional District High School Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery, was selected out of 150 entries and exhibited at the Tampa Museum of Art. The Best of Show 9th Congressional District winner was selected out of 200 entries and exhibited at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, Tarpon Springs. These students, along with their parents, will be recognized during a ribbon cutting ceremony in Washington D.C., on June 24, 2009. In addition, their artwork will be part of a year-long national exhibition in the Cannon Tunnel, a walkway inside the U.S. Capitol building through which members of Congress, congressional staff, lobbyists, and the general public enter the building. This is the first time Hillsborough County Public Schools has had two Best of Show winners for this competition in the same year.
An Artistic Discovery is the annual art contest sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives for high school students across the country. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
