Recognition of Magnet Schools of America (MSA) Merit Award Winners (Magnet Schools-Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

At The Magnet Schools of America 27th annual national conference in Charlotte, North Carolina, nine Hillsborough County magnet schools were honored and received awards. The Merit School Awards recognize “commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation/diversity efforts, and the consistent delivery of quality services to all school stakeholders.”

MacFarlane Park Elementary, an International Baccalaureate magnet school, and Young Middle, a math and scientific studies magnet school, were awarded Magnet Schools of Excellence.

Cahoon, Dunbar, Lincoln, Lomax, and Philip Shore elementary magnet schools; and Progress Village and Williams middle magnet schools were awarded Magnet Schools of Distinction. Cahoon is an animal science elementary school; Dunbar and Lomax are math and science elementary schools; Lincoln is an international studies elementary school; Progress Village Middle and Philip Shore elementary are visual, communication and performing arts schools; and Williams is an International Baccalaureate middle school.

Hillsborough County Public Schools have been recognized approximately 80 times by MSA.
