Recognition of World Languages State Competition Winners (Secondary Education-Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Students studying a world language recently competed in a statewide competition that included poetry recitation and skits. French, Spanish, and Latin students competed against other districts throughout the state. Japanese students competed against the University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, and Eckerd College.

The importance and advantages of learning a world language is continuing to increase day by day. Apart from being able to converse with different people in their own language, it can also teach understanding, tolerance, and cultural awareness. Learning a world language opens the door to other cultures and helps students become more competitive in the global market place.
