Approve the Submission of the Annual Master In-service Plan Update Letter to the Education Commissioner from the Director of Staff Development

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Florida State Statute 1012.98 (4)(b)(4) mandates that all districts have a Master In-service Plan for in-service activities and requires this plan to be approved by the local School Board annually by September 1st. In addition, an annual update must be submitted to the State Board of Education and written verification must be submitted annually to the commissioner. This agenda item requests approval for the director of Staff Development to submit the required update and verification.

On August 10, 2004, the Hillsborough County School Board approved our district Master In-service Plan for years 2004 - 2009. (A copy of the approval is attached.)

On February 24, 2009, the Hillsborough County School Board approved the addition of components to the Master Plan for In-service Education. (A copy of the approval is attached.)

On April 21, 2009, the Hillsborough County School Board approved the addition of components to the Master Plan for In-service Education. (A copy of the approval is attached.)

On May 19, 2009, the Hillsborough County School Board approved the addition of components to the Master Plan for In-service Education. (A copy of the approval is attached.)

* Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods, * Recruit, develop, and retain a highly effective, diverse workforce, * Align the performance management system with the district’s priorities, * Provide for a district-wide succession planning structure and visible career ladder, * Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety including students, employees, visitors, facilities, transportation, and health

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The cost of these courses is approximately $6 million and will be funded from various sources such as Title I, Title II, Federal Stimulus, and Part I.

EVALUATION

Course evaluations are completed at the conclusion of each training. The results of the evaluations will be captured through the Professional Development System. Feedback from facilitators is used to continuously revise and update the course content.
