Approve Budget Amendment to Contract #LK963 with the Florida Department of Children and Families for Career Recruitment and Instruction in Basic English (CARIBE) Program, 2008/2010 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval to the budget amendment for the CARIBE contract #LK963 approved by the School Board on July 15, 2008.

This amendment guarantees the provision of second-year CARIBE funding of $2.3 million in order to provide a cumulative two-year enrollment as follows:

The CARIBE grant project was initiated within the district in 1998 to provide educational services to recent refugees and political asylees. Since 1998, CARIBE has successfully served over 13,000 adult students and consistently receives exemplary evaluations for program operations.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The second-year budget fund of $2.3 million will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget, Project 1521, bringing the two-year total to $4.6 million. Indirect costs are included in the grant budget. Grant funding covers all costs of operations and grant activities.

EVALUATION

Evaluation is scheduled for October 31, 2010. Evaluation will include review of all enrollment data for eligibility of students, program completions, and all other deliverables.
