SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

As Required by State Statute, Each School District Must Distribute Information to Parents as Prescribed by the Family School Partnership Act. The Required Information Includes, A Parent's Guide to Hillsborough County Public Schools 2009/2010, District Parent/Family Involvement Rules, and A Parent's Checklist (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The 2003 legislature enacted the Family and School Partnership for Student Achievement Act, section 1002.23 Florida Statutes. The law requires each district to develop a parent guide that includes general information regarding services for parents, rigorous academic opportunities for students, education choices, accommodations for students with disabilities and local district information. In addition, each district is required to adopt rules that strengthen family involvement and to develop a self-assessment checklist for parents.

In collaboration with the St. Petersburg Times, a Parent's Guide to Hillsborough County Public Schools is published and distributed to school sites. The parent checklist and family involvement rules are contained within the guide. Each student receives a copy of the guide to take home. Both English and Spanish editions are distributed. In addition to the distribution that occurs through the school site, a copy is inserted into the newspaper by the publisher for distribution to all subscribers. This publication was reviewed by the Office of External Communications before going to print.
