SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Updated Safe Driver Plan
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Safe Driver Plan Committee is recommending the attached indentified changes to the Safe Driver Plan to bring the violation points assessed to district vehicle drivers in line with the State of Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles standards. Four specific infractions remain in the Safe Driver Plan and have a point value of 10 points per infraction -- Driving While Impaired, Failing to Stop at Railroad Crossing, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Operating with an Invalid or Improper Driver License.
For Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) drivers of school buses, vehicles greater than 26,000 GVW and Safety Sensitive positions, the accumulated point value does not change.
For NON-Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) all other district drivers, the accumulated point values revert to the State of Florida point accumulation values.
The change provides for improved management of points assessed to district drivers, eliminates the confusion for dual point assessment, and provides an opportunity to rehabilitate drivers who are not in compliance with the Safe Driver Plan.
