Approve Renewal Contract for Services with C. E. Mendez Foundation for Drug Education Teacher Services to Sixth-Grade, Seventh-Grade, Eighth-Grade, High School, and Private School Students Through the Safe and Drug Free Schools Grant (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval of the renewal contracts with C. E. Mendez Foundation, Inc. for drug education teacher services through the Safe and Drug Free Schools Grant. The following services are provided to district students in this highly successful comprehensive program that includes reading materials for students:
- approximately 6,500 sixth-grade students will receive nine hours of drug education - $114,660
- approximately 13,000 seventh-grade students will receive nine hours of drug education - $229,320
- approximately 6,500 eighth-grade students receive nine hours of drug education- $114,660
- approximately 11,000 high school students enrolled in Health I and HOPE classes will receive nine hours of drug education - $194,040
- approximately 1,500 private school students will receive nine hours of drug education - $50,220
C. E. Mendez has provided to the District the Foundation’s drug, alcohol, and tobacco awareness and prevention program of “Too Good for Drugs” and "Too Good for Drugs and Violence" since 1980. In November, federal funds were provided through the Safe and Drug Free Schools Program for the fiscal period July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2010. The contracts with C. E. Mendez Foundation, Inc. for 2009/2010 has been approved by the Foundation’s Executive Director and Director of Local Programs and are being submitted for full execution by our School Board.
