SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Extension of Adoption of Recommended Titles as Flexibility Instructional Materials for Middle School Science (Middle School Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval to extend the adoption of the instructional materials on the attached list through June 30, 2011. In 2003, a district Instructional Materials Selection Committee evaluated and recommended these instructional materials in accordance with School Board Policy 4.16; the adoption was approved by the School Board. This extension is requested in order to address the standards on evolution that are not covered in the existing seventh grade adopted text. Extending this adoption through June 30, 2011, will allow it to end in alignment with the state science adoption cycle. With next year’s state science adoption process, new products that include the standards at the appropriate grade level will be evaluated for implementation in 2011/2012. If approved, the listed materials will be available as supplemental materials for Middle Grades Science.
