Summary of Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) Grant Application to the Race to the Top-District (RTT-D) Federal Grant Competition (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Hillsborough County Public Schools has submitted a RTT-D grant application for funding from the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE).  If awarded, the year one amount will be approximately $13.2 million.  The proposed initiative will support middle school educators. If funded, the project is designed to provide teachers, teacher teams, and school leaders the information, tools, and supports necessary to enable them to meet the needs of each student and substantially accelerate and deepen each student’s learning. 

If funding is received, one Project Director position and one Coordinator of Evaluation position will be created.  The Project Director will be charged with the daily oversight and management of the proposed four-year project. The Coordinator of Evaluation would oversee and gather project data, maintain accurate data collections, and facilitate required reporting. The attached chart gives further details regarding the potential positions.

• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates • Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods • Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum • Recruit, develop, and retain a highly effective, diverse workforce • Align financial resources to support the district’s strategic goals • Demonstrate best financial practices
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
If awarded, funding for this project will be provided by the USDOE.  HCPS will be the grant’s fiscal agent.
EVALUATION
Under the terms of the grant, HCPS will submit to the USDOE an annual report describing the progress toward meeting stated goals, timelines, activities, deliverables, and budgets.  If awarded, a copy of the annual reports and final evaluation report would be provided by the district’s Office of Assessment and Accountability.
