Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) Funding to Implement Five New and Revised Magnet School Programs (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The United States Department of Education (USDOE) awarded $11,568,525 to Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) for the district's Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) grant project.

HCPS parents and students overwhelmingly are most interested in academically rigorous magnet programs that will prepare students for successful post-secondary education.  With that in mind, Hillsborough MSAP will create magnet programs designed to improve the quality of teaching and instruction, and reduce minority group isolation, in all targeted schools.

The new magnet programs will 1) recreate three existing magnet schools with more desirable themes that will improve the vertical articulation between the district's magnet schools and 2) revise two traditional schools into new whole-school magnet schools.  Magnet program staff will collaborate with teachers and district administrators from both the elementary and middle school departments to develop the curriculum for the Creative Science Centre and Single Gender programs, while the International Baccalaureate programs will follow existing district and IB curricular standards.
