FirstClass has developed a format for "collaborative communication," which has the appearance and functionality of a social media network. The format is commonly referred to as a "walled garden," in that it provides an opportunity for communications in a controlled setting.

FirstClass has offered to implement the collaborative communications network in HCPS, "OpenIDEAS" enabling employees to create an unlimited number of communities based on topics related to their work. Communities can include peer mentors, bus drivers, special education teachers, media specialists, data processing specialists, and any or all supportive department staff members.   Students, parents and members of the community can be invited to participate.  Individuals must be invited to join communities, and communications cannot be posted anonymously.

Officials from FirstClass and HCPS communications will preview the FirstClass proposal to create, implement and host the system that will co-exist with FirstClass/IDEAS.
