Recognition of the Commercial Art Academy at Tampa Bay Technical High School for Achieving  the "Certified Academy" Status from the National Career Academy Coalition (Career and Technical Education - Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The National Career Academy Coalition (NCAC) began in 1996 and is a national organization with a board comprised of educators, businesspersons and organizations representing and guiding the development of Career Academies. The goal of Career Academies is to increase student achievement through rigorous and relevant instruction, personalization, and to provide a support network for students. Career Academies are a research-based instructional delivery model and national reform model that has produced positive academic and labor market results for over 40 years.  Key features of Career Academies include the creation of a small learning community (school within a school) involving a cohort of students with an interdisciplinary team of teachers, college prep curriculum integrated with a career theme,  partnerships with industry, community, and colleges to extend learning beyond the classroom, and to provide a Gold Standard Program of Study.

NCAC evaluates Career Academies on their adherence to the following ten National Standards of Practice:  Defined Mission and Goals,  Academy Structure, Host District and High School, Faculty and Staff, Professional Development, Governance and Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Employer, Higher Education and Community Involvement, Student Assessment, and Cycle of Improvement.

On December 14, 2010, Tampa Bay Technical High School's Commercial Art Academy endured the rigorous evaluation by NCAC.  We are proud to announce that the Commercial Art Academy is our first district  Career Academy to achieve a National Certified Academy status.
