Recognition of McLane Middle School's Student Robotics Team, the VIBOTS, and their Teacher Michael Wilson (Administration Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request recognition of McLane Middle School's Stem Academy.  Its student robotics team, the VIBOTS, are a competitive team of students who have won numerous state competitions.  Most recently, these students won the VEX Robotics Challenge in Clermont, Florida on January 15, 2011.  They were the Tournament Champions and also won first place in Skills Challenge and first place in Programming Challenge.  In addition to their many accolades, their most recent accomplishments have qualified them for the following: 

  • 2011 VEX Robotics World Championship
  • U.S. National Robotics Championship - HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION
  • U.S. National Robotics Championship - MIDDLE SCHOOL DIVISION
  • 2011 VEX Robotics Middle School World Championship
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The cost of the competitions is $30,000, and  was paid via the Voluntary Public Schools Choice Grant, as this program is an initiative of the grant project, and the competitions are integrally related to classroom instruction and instructional goals.
EVALUATION
Each competition is evaluated on the day of its occurrence.
