| Approve the Naming of the Gymnasium at East Bay High School | |
| EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
| Coach Lota began his employment with Hillsborough County Public Schools in 1974 as a teacher at Young Jr. High School and retired in 2002. During his 28 years of employment Coach Lota held the position of teacher, as well as the wrestling coach for East Bay High School for the last 25 years of employment. Prior to his employment with Hillsborough County Public Schools, Coach Lota was responsible for starting the wrestling program at Jesiut High School in 1969.
Coach Lota had a great influence on the community, faculty and students. Coach Lota loved sports, especially wrestling. Coach Lota led the East Bay High School wrestling team to 227 wins, seven district championships, nine Western Conference national division titles, one regional title and several top ten finishes at state wrestling finals. In 2006 Coach Lota was inducted into the USA Wrestling Hall of Fame. Coach Lota has had a great influence on the students at East Bay High School and is a role model for others. He is a man of great integrity and gave all of himself for his students. The community, faculty and students would like to celebrate Coach Lota's dedication to the community and students with the honor of naming the gymnasium at East Bay High School the Coach Tom Lota Gymnasium. |
