Recognition of World Languages State Competition Winners (Secondary Education-Curriculum and Instruction Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Students studying a world language recently competed in a statewide competition that included poetry recitation and skits. Spanish learners competed in Orlando against other Florida districts. Japanese learners competed in Tampa against the University of Florida, University of South Florida (USF), University of Central Florida, and Eckerd College at the USF campus.
The importance and advantages of learning a world language is continuing to increase day to day. Apart from being able to converse with people in their own language, it also teaches tolerance, understanding, and cultural awareness. Learning a world language opens the door to other cultures and helps students become more competitive in the global market place. We would like to recognize Middleton High School students who placed 2nd in the Japanese State Competition 2011. |
