EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Each year the legal community and people across the nation celebrate Law Day on May 1. This year marks the 48th annual nationwide observance of Law Day. In 1958, then President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day to strengthen our great heritage of liberty, justice and equality under the law. Three years later, May 1 was designated by joint resolution of Congress as the official day to celebrate Law Day. In 1998, the Florida Legislature established the annual commemoration as an official day and designated week.
The Law Day theme for 2011 was "The Legacy of John Adams, from Boston to Guantanamo." Law Day provides an opportunity for all Americans to celebrate and learn about our country's heritage of liberty under law and how the rule of law makes our democracy better. By participating in the contest, students have the opportunity to learn more about law in a fun and interesting way. Winners were selected based on creativity and incorporation of the Law Day theme. The students, their families, and art teachers were invited to attend the Law Day Luncheon Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Tampa where the winners were honored as part of the event. |
