| Approve the equipment and services purchase of iPads to be used at Franklin and Ferrell Single Gender Middle Magnet schools. These two newly-constituted magnet schools will open in the 2011/2012 school year as Single Gender Preparatory Schools. (Curriculum and Instruction Division) | |
| EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
| We are seeking approval for the purchase of iPads, necessary equipment, training for teachers, and services for Franklin and Ferrell Middle Magnet Schools.
We have a districtwide opportunity for all students to attend and be a part of Hillsborough County history. This unique program will keep pace with technology and offer cutting-edge education. We have identified Apple Inc. as a sole-source supplier of the iPad and, as such, the requirement for requesting competitive solicitation is waived. This agenda comes to you as the spending threshold for approval will exceed the $50,000 benchmark. The use of the iPad will accelerate learning and expand global access to the world for our students. Smart use of technology is primarily about allowing each student to be more successful both inside and outside the classroom. We have researched and developed curricular applications and materials for use on the iPads. |
