SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Redistribution of the Annual $20,000 Grant Funds Provided by the Hewlett Packard (HP) Partnership to Increase the Amount for the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) Scholarship Program of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Local Chapter
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
To assist in meeting technology, it was proposed that additional funding be allocated to the ACT-SO Scholarship Program of the NAACP local chapter.  The money is provided in the HP contract extension for an additional sixth year bringing the total to $120,000.  The recommendation at that time was to allocate $18,000 per year to the matching grants fund program and $2,000 per year to the ACT-SO Scholarship Program of the NAACP local chapter.  The new recommendation which has been approved by the HP Quarterly Review Committee and the Technology Steering Committee to revise the amounts as follows:  matching grants funds will receive $17,000 and the ACT-SO Scholarship Program of the NAACP local chapter will receive $3,000.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
•Â Align financial resources to support the district’s strategic goals
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The HP contract language provides $20,000 annually.  HP has continued this offer in the sixth year extension of the contract.  Approval of this item provides a six year total of $120,000 distributed with $107,000 for school technology matching grants and $13,000 for our students qualifying for NAACP ACT-SO scholarships.
EVALUATION
Provided through the grant application process and oversight of the awards by the Hillsborough Education Foundation, the Technology matching funds grants provide targeted goals and objectives as well as a requirement to demonstrate results.  The NAACP ACT-SO scholarships will be governed by the requirements of that organization through the local chapter and will directly benefit our students as they graduate and attend college.
