SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve All Title I Projects and Funds Based on Final Approval from the State, for the 2011/2012 School Year (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Title I funds will provide resources to support educational programs for approximately 90,000 children in 138 Title I public schools, 13 institutions for delinquent children, 12 institutions for neglected children, 8 institutions for at-risk youth,  39 non-public institutions, 7 eligible migrant high schools, 9 eligible migrant middle schools, and 22 eligible migrant elementary schools.  The district has received only preliminary allocations for each Title I Project.  The preliminary allocations, which may include any allowable roll forward amounts are as follows:

  • Title I Basic:  $67,750,000.00 (Including Roll Forward Funds)
  • Title I Neglected & Delinquent Funds:  $963,305.00
  • Title I Migrant:  $2,842,000.00
  • Title I Migrant PASS:  $250,000.00

• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
This item is included in the District Special Revenue/Federal Programs Budget.  This project will provide the district approximately $71,805,305 in federal funds under Title I.
EVALUATION
By February 1, 2013, a comprehensive evaluation of the 2011/2012 Title I Project will be completed.  The evaluation will determine the impact that Title I funds had in increasing student achievement at eligible schools.  Data to be analyzed will include Kindergarten Readiness, Adequate Yearly Progress, school grades, state assessments, graduation rate, School Climate and Perception Survey results, which will include parent and community involvement data, professional development, and Supplemental Educational Services.  The information will be used to better prioritize and direct federal dollars toward programs and initiatives that are closing current achievement gaps.
