Approve the Purchase of "The SPARK Science Equipment" from PASCO Scientific to be Utilized at Various Middle and High Schools (Sole-Source Provider) (Business Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This equipment is considered sole-source and is exempt from the bidding process per Florida Department of Education 6A-1.012 purchasing policies.

This science equipment has been specifically chosen based on the goals and theme of each school.  The SPARK Science Learning System is a mobile device that offers students the following benefits:

  • Integrates the power of probeware with inquiry-based content and assessment
  • Encourages and enhances a discovery-based science learning environment
  • Brings portability and mobility to a classroom where critical thinking and problem solving are driven
  • Brings 21st century technology into the science classroom
  • Provides a tool that allows students to analyze data collected during learning activities
  • Allows students to store data obtained during labs
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods • Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds of $151,233 will be available from Title I, Magnet Schools Assistant Program (MSAP) and the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) Grants.
EVALUATION
At the end of the school year, a survey will be conducted with the teachers and students to gather information regarding this equipment.  In addition, evaluations are performed for all funded grants as required by the grant funding authority.
