SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Guidelines for School Improvement 2011/2012 (School Improvement and Accountability)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval of the attached 2011/2012 Guidelines for School Improvement document which has been updated and approved by the Central Facilitating Team, the Office of School Improvement and Accountability, Title I, and other appropriate district staff. Florida statutes require the school board to annually review its accountability procedures. The purpose of the Guidelines for School Improvement is to establish procedures for the school improvement process as it relates to Florida statutes along with district best practices. The Guidelines for School Improvement serves as the bylaws for School Advisory Councils across the district. The majority of the modifications made to the 2011/2012 edition clarify the school improvement process where further explanation was requested by district-level and school-based personnel. New text added to the document calls for any election or voting process to be organized and monitored by a three member team: Principal, School Advisory Council Chair and Classroom Teacher Association representative. Deleted text includes standard waivers that do not directly relate to goals on the School Improvement Plan (uniforms and tardy policy). [Attachments include: Attachment A-2011/2012 Highlights of Additions and Changes; Attachment B-2011/2012 Guidelines for School Improvement.]
