SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Agreement with Aventa Learning, LLC and Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Aventa Learning, LLC (Aventa) will provide HCPS with online courses for a variety of purposes and student populations from the student at risk of not graduating to the Advanced Placement (AP) student needing more challenging curriculum not offered through our existing virtual curriculum to fit within their schedule. This agreement provides for unlimited use throughout HCPS.
For the last few years, it has been necessary to contract with several different curriculum providers to meet the needs of our students in Individual Motivated Performance Assisted by Computer Technology (IMPACT), credit recovery, and adult education programs. We purchased a specified number of student licenses to use districtwide for each of these programs. In 2010/2011, we purchased 2,200 licenses and served 4,360 students at a cost of $826,439.87. This included agreements with four separate curriculum vendors. With the growth of these programs and the need to extend opportunities to students from hospital/homebound, alternative education, supplemental virtual Advanced Placement (AP), and world language programs, the projected number of students to be served for 2011/2012 is 7,500. Using the unlimited use model versus purchasing a specified number of licenses per site has an estimated cost savings of $658,687.50. Aventa Learning provides the appropriate rigor and content necessary for the programs listed above and will meet the new mandated requirement of one distance learning course for graduation as is written in House Bill 7197. |
