Approve the Recommendation Regarding the Purchase of the Next Generation Read 180 Program from Scholastic, Inc. (Sole Source Provider) (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
These items from Next Generation Read 180 are considered the sole source items and are exempt from the bidding process per Florida Department of Education Rule #6A1.012 purchasing polices.

The Next Generation Read 180 program is the upgrade of our currently used Read 180, Enterprise version. The Next Generation Read 180 program is used as the core instructional program in 30 middle school and 36 high school intensive reading classrooms. These classes are state-mandated, reading intervention courses for seventh and ninth grade students who have scored at Level 1 or 2 on FCAT 2.0 Reading and who have not met Florida's Level 3 proficient reader status.

The materials and licenses include the following: (1) The Next Generation Read 180 Teaching System including teacher editions, anchor videos, data-driven differentiated instruction support materials, and Common Core State Standards-aligned assessments, (2) upgraded technology support including expanded student topic software, the Achievement Manager, student e-Readers for independent reading, student/teacher/leader dashboards, and the upgraded installation software package, (3) conversion of student materials to include an updated paperback collection for independent reading and individual student R-Books for use in small group instruction, (4) professional development (PD) for teachers including 22 days of face-to-face training and in-classroom visitation support, an interactive training webinar, and an online PD course on reading intervention.

• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Budgeted Comprehensive Reading Plan grant funds (Project 4526) are available in the amount of $650,000 for this project year and an additional $375,000 over the next five years.
