Approve Purchase of Materials for the Hillsborough County Elementary Robotics Program for the 2011/2012 School Year (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) is a two-year economic stimulus package signed into law on February 17, 2009.  The act invests heavily in education and includes funding for innovative programs that support school reform initiatives designed to close the achievement gap, address college affordability, and improve access to higher education.  The Hillsborough County Elementary Robotics Program is one such program.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates • Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods • Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds of  $71,609.68 will be provided from Title I funds (Project # 2195).
EVALUATION
Evaluation of the initiative will be performed by the elementary science and mathematics supervisors under the supervision of the district STEM director and general director of Federal Programs.  Continual professional learning community meetings and trainings will be held for all teachers involved on an ongoing basis throughout the year.
