Approve Memorandum of Understanding with the World Wide Workshop and The School Board of Hillsborough County, FL, for the Implementation of the Globaloria Learning Network During the 2011/2012 School Year (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval of the Memorandum of Understanding with the World Wide Workshop and The School Board of Hillsborough County, FL, for implementation of the Globaloria Learning Network. The purpose of this partnership is to provide an innovative blended-learning model for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, which enables students to learn content through the complex processes of game design, development, and production.  As part of Globaloria, students will engage in collaborative communication and share content with peers.  The memorandum of understanding shall be in effect from July 19, 2011 through June 30, 2012.

The World Wide Workshop will provide the Globaloria Platform and Curriculum, professional development, student, educator and staff support, and Game Design/Leadership Inspiration Competition Awards for the entire 2011/2012 school year, ending June 30, 2012.

The School Board of Hillsborough County, FL will select the implementation sites, students and educators, coordinate professional development activities, provide necessary hardware and software, develop assessment tools, provide ongoing teacher support, and oversee the implementation of Globaloria.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
Funding for this project will be provided by a $50,000 grant from the Florida Department of Education.  The remaining balance of approximately $60,000 will be provided through alternative funding sources secured by World Wide Workshop.  There will be no additional funds provided by The School Board of Hillsborough County, FL.
EVALUATION
The Office of Assessment and Accountability will provide guidance for teachers to create pre and post-course surveys and exams to assess qualitative and quantitative data pertaining to the program.
