E-Rate Program Overview and District Status (Information and Technology Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
This agenda item provides the federal E-Rate program information that was requested by the school board. Over the past 10 years, Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) has received over $28 million in funding from the E-Rate program.
The most important understanding is the fact that the demand always exceeds the available E-Rate funds. HCPS staff addresses this funding agenda by focusing on the approximately 137 schools that fall into the 80% to 90% discount levels. Historically, the funds have run out prior to reaching applications below the 80% discount level for Priority Two requests. Our district discount has ranged between 66% and 72%. This means that no matter how well we write our applications, we will not receive E-Rate funding for many of our schools and administration sites for internal connections or basic maintenance.
