SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve to Submit Grant Application to the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) and, if Approved, Accept Funds for the Florida Inclusion Network (FIN) for 2011/2012 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval to submit a grant application to the FDOE for FIN.  The major goals for 2011/2012 include increases in learning gains for students with disabilities in reading, math, writing and science within the least restrictive environment, increases in family-centered activities sponsored by FIN, and increases in academic outcomes for students with significant disabilities for postsecondary options.

FIN collaborates with the Division of Curriculum and Instruction in providing district and school based workshops and learning opportunities for all teachers, both in exceptional and general education positions, Pre-K through grade 12.  FIN provides support to all schools by addressing the needs of diverse learners in general education classrooms, providing continuous school-based technical assistance and follow-up, and sharing current research information and resources with all personnel, which supports inclusion of all students and increased student outcomes.  A summary narrative of the grant proposal is attached.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates • Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods • Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum • Promote a culture of safety, which is free from harassment, bullying, and aggression
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
If approved, grant funds of $212,000 will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget, FIN grant.
EVALUATION
Performance evaluation measures are determined by the FDOE.  The complete annual state performance report will be completed in December 2012.  The results of the evaluation will be shared with all stakeholders.
