Request Approval of Activities Calendar for Civil Air Patrol Field Trips, 2011/2012 (Career and Technical Education) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Field Trip activities calendar has been developed for presentation to the School Board for approval this year by Brainard Harris, the instructor for the Civil Air Patrol program at Barrington Middle School. A list of the co-curricular activities for November 2011 through September 2012 is attached. The list represents activities which all Civil Air Patrol chapters may participate in with their students throughout the school year.
These activities are an integral part of the Civil Air Patrol curriculum. Approval of this calendar expedites the procedure for students to participate in related Civil Air Patrol in-county and out-of-county activities for the four middle school Civil Air Patrol Chapters (with some high school student after-school membership) currently in operation. The four middle schools with Civil Air Patrol Chapters are Barrington with a day program; Greco, Shields, and Stewart with after school programs. The extent of participation is determined by available district resources and parental resources. In 2010/2011 approximately 100 students participated in the program. Through involvement in Civil Air Patrol activities students are able to strengthen leadership capabilities and improve personal attributes. Students excel from their participation in Civil Air Patrol because of the recognition they receive, the confidence-building activities they undertake, and the opportunities provided to utilize practical and academic learning. Civil Air Patrol integrates training and academics and as a result our community views this program as a significant source of well-prepared young men and women. |
