Recognition of the 2011 Central Florida Braille Challenge Regional Winners (Exceptional Student Education - Curriculum and Instruction Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
On February 18, 2011, 52 blind and visually impaired students from 13 surrounding counties in the Central Florida region met in Tampa to test their Braille skills in a unique academic competition. The students took part in the 2011 Central Florida Braille Challenge.
The Visually Impaired Program of Hillsborough County Public Schools serves approximately 300 students ranging in age from birth through 22 years. During the competition, 16 students competed in the day long Braille Challenge in the following literacy categories: reading comprehension, Braille spelling, chart and graph reading, proofreading, and Braille speed and accuracy. The day concluded with an awards ceremony to acknowledge the students for their accomplishments. |
