SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Florida Junior Golf Council Grant Agreement for Elementary Physical Education Instruction 2011 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Florida Junior Golf Council is providing funding in the amount of $20,000 for the purchase of The First Tee training and equipment for physical education programs at 12 Hillsborough County Title 1 elementary schools. The training will take place December 1, 2011 through January 31, 2012, via an online course developed by The First Tee National School Program. The teacher training and program implementation will conclude in June 2012. Students New At Golf (SNAG) equipment will be delivered to the Title 1 sites upon completion of the online course. This funding source will enable us to add an additional 12 sites to the existing 65 sites in the district. The 12 Title 1 schools are: Bing, Burney, Clair Mel, Egypt Lake, Forest Hills, Mango, Riverhills, Twin Lakes, Village of Excellence Charter, West Shore, West Tampa and Yates.

If approved, 12 Title 1 elementary schools will receive training and equipment worth $20,000.
EVALUATION
Teachers surveyed at schools participating in The First Tee program reported that their students displayed improved social skills, improved abilities to establish goals, improved abilities to resolve conflicts and/or uncomfortable situations, and improved skills as they relate to the mechanics of golf.
