SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Purchase of Computer Storage from the IBM Corporation (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
On July 26, 2011, the Board approved piggy-backing the State of Florida agreement # 250-000-09-1 Network Infrastructure - Equipment and Services with the IBM Corporation. This agenda item will allow Information Services staff to acquire additional hardware components, itemized in Attachment A, to increase our computer storage capacity. The additional computer storage is needed to support the existing applications located in the district’s data center. The district’s data storage requirements have increased primarily from the growth of information provided through the Student Information System, Lawson Talent Management, and the Performance Management Information System.
The district has undergone significant growth in its storage space needs. This increased storage capacity allows the district to continue to store files, contracts, payment records, and an extensive array of data that is required for daily district activities. The proposed increase adds 9.6 terabytes of capacity to the district’s IBM model DS8100, expanding the capability of the existing equipment. Included in this proposal is an IBM Storwize V7000 storage subsystem with 62.4 terabytes of additional disk capacity. The IBM Storwize V7000 is a virtualized storage system designed to increase performance and savings by delaying the obsolescence of existing hardware. |
