EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Five schools will be a part of a five-year study conducted by Dr. Stephen Peters. The purpose of this study will be to assess the long term effect of early intervention of students who are most likely to drop out of school. The study will follow students in grades 4 - 9 as to how the teacher's attitude, parental involvement, and self-esteem impact academic and social behaviors. The schools involved in this project are in the Jefferson High School boundaries. The schools are: Just Elementary and Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary, Madison Middle and Stewart Middle, and Jefferson High Schools.
Training will be conducted with the teaching staff; a Gentlemen's Club and Ladies Club will be formed involving 25 students per club (a total of 50 per school). Students will be selected for this study through one of three methods: principal recommendation, teacher and guidance recommendations, or Child Study Team using the RtI process. |

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
The total cost of this program at all five schools is $17,500, and will be paid using Title I funds.
EVALUATION | |
At the end of each school year, the 50 students at each school will have their academic and social records reviewed. Promotion and retention, number of referrals, and attitude relative to graduating from high school will be recorded.
The principal, parent, and student will attend this annual meeting. Records will be shared from school to school so that the data may be compiled at the end of the project. Therefore, parent permission is requested for students who are members of the Gentlemen's Club or the Ladies' Club. |
