Recognition of a Career and Technical Education Teacher Who Received the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award (Career, Technical, and Adult Education - Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We would like to recognize Mrs. Karla DeShong Clayton, Criminal Justice Instructor at Durant High School, who was selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by The National Society of High School Scholars. The society was founded by Claes Nobel, a grandnephew of Alfred Nobel whose legacy created the Nobel Prizes.  Each year, student members of the society are asked to nominate the one teacher who has made the most difference to them during high school and had the most positive impact on them.  Lucio Vasquez, one of Mrs. Clayton's criminal justice students, nominated her by writing that she inspired him to want to major in criminal justice.  He emphasized that she always teaches her students to "do the right thing."  Mrs. Clayton accepted her award at the President Carter Center in Atlanta.
