SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Reorganization and New Job Descriptions for the Communications & Electronics Department,
Approve Job Description, Specialist 2 (Contracted Services)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The attached reorganization plan represents phase four of the reorganization of the District’s Maintenance Department. Previous phases accomplished over the past few years have reorganized the Furniture Refinishing, Sites and Utilities and HVAC/Energy Management Services departments, resulting in a total of $311,099.00 in direct annual salary savings.

The fourth phase proposed herein provides for reorganization of the Communication and Electronics Department. Additionally, through retirements, promotions and the improved efficiencies throughout the Maintenance Department, eight vacant positions have been identified for deletion. While the primary need for this reorganization is driven by significantly expanded support requirements for security and access control cameras, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and voice over internet protocol (VOIP) brought about by the changing needs and challenges at our schools, this final phase also achieves additional cost savings of $54,210.00 annually.

This phase will ensure that the Communications and Electronics Department can continue to provide the quality of customer service and workmanship expected and deserved at our schools.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Recruit, develop, and retain a highly effective, diverse workforce • Provide for a district-wide succession planning structure and visible career ladder • Construct and maintain facilities that create an environment conducive to teaching and learning
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)

Upon full implementation, this phase of the reorganization will represent approximately $54,210 in annual savings.  These changes will also result in additional savings based on the enhanced focus on vendor performance and contractor management.
