Recognition of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Florida for Their Combined Efforts and Contributions to K-12 Physical Education Programs (Elementary Education-Curriculum and Instruction Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Due to the efforts and contributions of USTA Florida, Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) is able to provide USTA Teaching Tennis in the Schools Program to all elementary school students.
The USTA Teaching Tennis in the Schools Program is a nationally recognized program that focuses on developmentally appropriate instruction of tennis and tennis related physical skills. Aligned with the Elementary School Physical Education Next Generation Sunshine State Standards, the program offers students a unique learning experience which combines positive social values with an age appropriate, success oriented curriculum. In August 2011, 186 physical education teachers at 145 elementary schools received a 3-hour training which focused on strategies for integrating USTA Teaching Tennis in the Schools Program curriculum with best practice for teaching tennis. In addition, each of the participating schools received $1,440 of instructional resources and equipment. To date, over 86,000 elementary school students have directly benefited from this partnership. The program’s in kind and financial contribution to HCPS is approximately $217,500. |
