SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Recommendation Regarding the Purchase of Various Mac Products from Apple, Inc. (Sole-Source Provider) (Career, Technical, and Adult Education - Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Commercial Art Academy at Tampa Bay Technical High School has been recognized as one of the top Commercial Art programs in the state of Florida and has won numerous state and national awards. Students are being prepared to continue their education in careers such as graphics design, computer art, or magazine illustration.

The program uses Apple equipment which has been purchased at various times over the past eight years. There are 25 iMac computers which are four years old and work well with the current software. There are also 25 eMac computers which are eight years old and are so out of date they no longer meet the industry requirements.  Perkins funds will be used to upgrade the obsolete Apple equipment so that all students will have access to the latest technology.

The Advanced Academy of Film Production and Design at Spoto High School began in the fall of 2011. This program is the first of its kind in the county and was designed to give students the opportunity to study and create Interactive Digital Media. The TV Production facility was renovated to accommodate this new program and equipment is being updated and installed in phases in order to limit student interruptions.

Apple Inc. is considered a sole source for this application as authorized Apple resellers are not authorized to sell standard Apple hardware, software, and service products to public educational institutions in the United States.
