SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Subagreement (#1777-1086-00-A) between the University of South Florida (USF) and Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) for Services Associated with HCPS Role in USF’s Helios Grant Program Entitled, Transforming Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Teacher Preparation for the Transition Years (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The Helios Foundation awarded $430,000 to USF for a STEM Middle School Residency program. Of that amount, $11,628 is dedicated to project services rendered by HCPS Director of K-12 STEM Education. The STEM Middle School Residency Program focuses upon restructuring pre-service mathematics and science education programs at USF to align with HCPS Empowering Effective Teachers (EET) initiative. In addition to the services rendered by the Director of K-12 STEM Education, HCPS agrees to an estimated in-kind contribution of $41,531 for a small portion of time from select middle school, secondary education, and professional development personnel (see subagreement, attachment 2) to further support this project.
We request that approval of this document be retroactive to November 21, 2011. The delay in submission of this document to the School Board for approval is attributed to the extended time required for the development of the scope of work and budget needed to execute the agreement between USF and HCPS. The grant award also allowed for district in-kind involvement, which required additional planning. During this time, participation as a mandatory partner has continued. |
|

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)
Funding for this project is provided by the Helios Foundation. USF is the grant’s fiscal agent and project funds reside at USF. HCPS will invoice USF as outlined in the Subagreement.
