SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Purchase of Computer Storage from the IBM Corporation (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
On July 26, 2011, the Board approved piggy-backing the State of Florida agreement #250-000-09-1 Network Infrastructure - Equipment and Services with the IBM Corporation. This agenda item will allow Information Services staff to acquire additional hardware components, itemized in Attachment A, to increase our server storage capacity.
The current storage area network was acquired in December 1, 2008, and has reached its total capacity of 70 Terabytes (TB). The storage will continue to be used until the cost to maintain the equipment exceeds its beneficial use. There are approximately 290 servers connected to the current storage device. The proposed equipment consists of two IBM XIV storage area networks, each containing 134 TB of available space. One unit will be installed at the data center within the Raymond O. Shelton School Administrative Center (ROSSAC). The second will be installed in the Dr. Samuel J. Horton Instructional Services Center (ISC). The storage will utilize the high-speed network connection between the two locations. The combined storage is 268 TB of capacity and has a list price of approximately $5.9 million. Due to the current competitive climate between vendors in the storage market, the district realized an 86% discount. The total proposal is $834,320. Included in this proposal is an additional 83 TB of capacity for the IBM Storwize V7000 storage subsystem used to maintain backup copies of critical files in case of a disaster. |
