SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Compilation of Required Testing, Grades Kindergarten Through Twelve (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Students in Hillsborough County Public Schools are assessed throughout the year on a variety of tests each designed for a specific purpose.  Some tests, such as Florida’s Florida Assessment for Instruction in Reading (FAIR) are diagnostic in nature, designed to provide meaningful feedback for instruction.  Others, such as End-of-Course exams are summative and are administered to assess the students’ knowledge of a subject.

Attached is a list of tests administered districtwide for students in grades kindergarten through twelve.  The chart is divided by grade level, and identifies each test as a state or district test, the approximate dates of testing, which students are tested (please note that not every student at a particular grade level takes each test), the length of the test, and the nature of the test (i.e. paper and pencil, computer based, etc.).

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum • Align the performance management system with the district’s priorities
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Costs for district testing generally range between $700,000 and $800,000 annually.
EVALUATION
The Division of Curriculum and Instruction, along with Assessment and Accountability, evaluate the need for each district test and the composition of each on an annual basis.
